Puppy Information

SGK never wants you to feel like you can't reach us! We are quick to respond to your questions and comments! This section is for general info on being a new SGK puppy owner! Every breeder is different on their tips and advice based on how their puppies have been raised, this is our personal info based on how your puppy has been raised!

Housebreaking tips

SGK understands it can be overwhelming at times having a puppy and housebreaking is never fun.

Your puppy, since it was weaned at 4 weeks, has been on pine shavings and knows to go potty there. We suggest getting a small bag of pine shavings (you can get them at Walmart or any petstore in the bunny section.) You can get a handful of the shavings on a pee pad by the door and some outside where you want them to potty. They should pick up on it quickly to go there. We say put the pad by the door so when your puppy goes to the door they are also letting you know they needs to go out to potty! These babies can't hold themselves for long periods of time, so take them out about 5 min or less after they eat and keep an eye on the drinking, For the first few weeks you may have to get up in the night to let it out. We recommend getting a small crate (10 lbs) to teach them to be crate trained first. Put a pee pad down to help keep it clean. When your puppy comes out of the crate put them straight outside to potty. When they are going outside try saying, while going "good job go potty outside" maybe follow up with a treat! The crate should only be big enough for them to turn around, dogs are naturally clean animals and don't want to potty where they sleep.

Feeding

Your puppy is on Purina Pro Plan puppy mixed with Diamond Puppy. If you want to switch them over slowly mix in the new food and decrease the Purina Pro Plan over about 4 days. They are eating twice a day by the time you have them. We feed around 8am and 6:30pm. They are eating 1/4 cup twice a day at 8 weeks old, as they get bigger their food increases. By the time they are 7-8 months old should be eating about 2 cups a day.

Fixing

We strongly recommend waiting to fix your baby until they are 8 months to a year old. Their bodies need the hormones for bone growth/strength! Of course consult with your vet for your baby!
